Before you begin a facial skin rejuvenation and care regimen, it is vital that you understand what causes your skin to be elastic and young looking.
Collagen is the material that gives your skin its appearance of smoothness and youth. It works like a glue that holds skin cells together. Collagen is a protein produced by your body, but as you get older the collagen production begins to slow down. As production slows, the collagen framework begins to break down, allowing wrinkles and sagging areas. You must maintain the collagen balance in your skin.
Skin rejuvenation is really a three part process:
The first part of course is prevention of further damage.
There are several things that you can do to prevent further loss to skin tone:
Use sun screen. Yes, we all love the tanned look, but we hate ourselves later in life when we have the dried out wrinkled look..Protection from the sun is vital to skin beauty.
Use a facial moisturizer with SPF of at least15. Your skin -like most of your body – is composed in large part of water. Allowing it to dry out is detrimental to its structure.
Take extra Vitamin E. Vitamin E protects the cells against free radical damage and it is this damage that causes the signs of aging.
The second part is rebuilding your skin by increasing your bodys collagen production.
Add vitamin C in form of fruit or supplements Vitamin C has been noted to increase collagen production in skin cells up to eight times. The problem with vitamin C is that our bodies do not produce it, nor store it. It must be taken in the form of food or supplements daily in order for your body to have a sufficient supply for collagen production. It has many other benefits in addition to enhancing the beauty of your skin, so it is definitely a winner.
Take a CoQ10 supplement It is produced in our bodies. However, its production also decreases with age, so and as we get older we simply do not have enough of it. It stimulates collagen production. It is also an anti-oxidant supplement and fights free radicals that lead to skin damage.CoQ10 can be added by taking supplements and using a topical cream, both help stimulate collagen production.
Use a skin cream with retinol. Retinol has been reported to promote the production of collagen in aged and wrinkled skin. In fact, the main ingredient, Retinoic acid, is also the only product approved by the Food and Drug Administration to support its claim on reversing the effects of skin aging. The Retinol cream you choose should have a concentration of between 0.2 and 0.6 percent in order to be effective.
The third part of skin rejuvenation is proper cleansing.
Wash your hands thoroughly first, so you do not add bacteria to your facial skin. Wash your face with a cleanser for your skin type. For example, if you have acne, you would want an oil free or lightly medicated cleanser. Rinse your face very thoroughly to make sure the soap is gone completely. Pat dry with a soft cloth. Rubbing with a towel spreads bacteria. Allow it to finish air drying. Apply moisturizer, once again with a product for your skin type.
Exfoliate your skin weekly. When you exfoliate, your skin replaces the old skin cells with new ones. You can make an exfoliating scrub at home by adding just enough table sugar to olive oil to make a paste. Rub it into your skin in gentle, circular motions.Rinse off and pat dry.
Finally, and vitally important, you should wash your face in water without chlorine. This is so important because chlorine is a dangerous oxidizer and is one of the biggest contributors to skin damage. Remember how your skin feels after spending time in the swimming pool where the chlorine concentration is high?
Chlorine is also added to public water supplies to kill germs. If you use a public water supply, it has chlorine. If you wash with it every day, your skin is exposed over and over to the damaging chemical.
